Join a group

Want to participate in a Yahoo group? Joining is quick and easy!

Joining a group

  1. Sign in to Yahoo Groups.
  2. To find a group you'd like to join, you can:
    • Browse for a group — on the left, click Browse.
    • Search for a group — at the top of the page, enter your search terms and click Search Groups.
      - While searching or browsing, recently active groups are listed first.
  3. On the search results page, click a group’s name to see its description.
  4. To join, click Join Group.
    - A page opens, asking for your membership info (your display name, alias, email address, message delivery, etc.).
  5. Set your membership info.
  6. Click Send Request.

  Keep in mind: Some groups are private. In these groups, your request will be sent to the group's moderator for approval before you can participate.

Responding to an invitation

Did you get an email invitation to join an existing group? Learn how you can accept the invite, and join the group.

Full membership invites

  1. Open the email containing the group invitation.
  2. Click Join Group.
    - You'll be taken to the group's "About" page, where you can read about the group.
  3. If you'd like to join, click Join Group, on the group's homepage.
    -You're prompted to confirm your membership info.
  4. Enter a display name
  5. Select the alias you'd like to use.
  6. Select your email address.
  7. Select a message delivery option.
  8. Enter the CAPTCHA code.
  9. Click Send Request.

Success! You've accepted the invitation.

Email-only subscription invites

  1. Open the email containing the group invitation.
  2. To join the group's mailing list, click Join mailing list.
    - You'll be taken to the group's "About" page, where you can read about the group.
  3. To upgrade your email-only subscription to a full membership with Web access, click upgrade to full membership, on the page that loads.

Subscribing to a group's mailing list

Subscribing to a group's mailing list means that you will only receive email messages from the group, so you won't have access to the group's Web features (like photos, files, links, polls, calendar, etc.) unless you get Web access with a full membership later.

  1. Send a blank email to groupname-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
    Note: Replace groupname with the actual name of the group.
    -You'll be sent a confirmation email from the group.
  2. Reply to the confirmation email to activate your subscription.

Managing your groups and settings

Once you've joined a group, you can manage your group and subscription settings whenever you want to customize your group's experience.
